Preparing for your First Appointment
What will my first appointment be like?
Your first appointment is scheduled as an intake appointment, also known as a bio-psychosocial assessment. Your intake appointment is approximately 60-minutes, and is designed to help your clinician better understand your history and circumstances.
Because the focus is broad, you will be interviewed based on the core elements of your circumstances and history. In future appointments, the focus will move from broad to in-depth. Think of it like looking at a painting of a lush green forest. At the beginning (meaning the intake), the focus will be on the forest itself, and future appointments will begin to slowly zoom in, to explore the trees, branches, leafs and further details of the landscape.
This process allows your clinician to better understand the broad strokes of your circumstances, and start developing a map of your history and experiences. Thereafter, you and your clinician will explore, in-depth, the details of events and circumstances.
For your first appointment, during the COVID-19 pandemic, and if you are comfortable with these two options, you have the choice to do your intake via virtual tele-health (audio/video) and/or via phone-only. If you are electing to use an insurance program carrier for services, please know that some restrictions may apply based on what your insurance program carrier outlines in your policy with them.
